Hello everyone!
After delays over and over again, Disgaea 5 have finally made its way to PC and despite knowing that Gig from Soul Nomad won’t be in DLC (why are you doing this NIS?),
I did not cancelled my pre-order.
You can see my first 30 minutes impressions of it on youtube here,
Now, if you’re annoyed by commentaries and rambling in a video, then feel free to read this for the first impression.
Since Disgaea 5 is not a new game, as someone in the fanbase I already heard that it have a more serious and dark vibes compared to it’s predecessor.
I prefer dark comedy more than brooding emotional types of story. But well, I’ll take what I get.
When the introduction’s cutscene finished, you will be taken into what they called in game as Pocket Netherworld. This will be your base throughout the game.
The OST inside the base is what catches my attention first. It was pretty different than what I’m used to. In fact, I think using vocal soundtrack as the main base theme is pretty bizarre. But, I love it. I can’t talk music, but I love the base’s soundtrack so much. You guys should really check it out.
I can’t say the same for other OST though, maybe they’re the type of OST that warmed up to your ear after some time.
Plotwise, I haven’t gotten far yet, so I can’t say much. But to me, the comedy is there, but you can feel that it’s not the priority. Sometime it does felt like they’re pushing it too hard that it became cringe instead of funny. Well that’s Japanese slapstick for you I guess.
In terms of Battle System. They incorporated Magichange which is something I’m not familiar to, since I did not play Disgaea 3 or 4. It took me like 10 battles to actually try it myself, because there’s no tutorial about it. The tutorial comes after I click it.
Other than that, the skills animation are fluid and fancy. And also, quirky like most NIS games features. Most skills name seems to be recycled from their past games, except for the main characters’ skill. Which is something understandable, because their games takes place in the same universe.
Now that’s all for me. Thank you all for reading! 😀
Do I recommend this game? Yes.
